Vicki currently lives and works near White Rock, BC. She received training at the Lorenzo di Medici Art Institute in Florence, Italy in 2001 and attended a design program at Capilano University, North Vancouver, BC a few years later.
She has travelled extensively, which is where the imagery for some of her work comes from. However, she gets the most joy out of painting intuitively, or from a place of raw emotion.
Some particular experiences she draws upon are her travels through South Africa, her 6 month stay in Italy, visits to Amsterdam, Greece, & Paris, a backpacking excursion along the eastern coast and into central Australia, and from her meanderings around the streets of her home town, Vancouver, BC.
Vicki Lynn Rae is a devoted Artist.
"I live my art. Painting is my primary form of expression. I also practice Formal Ballroom & Latin Dance as well as Intermediate Level Yoga. I sing, meditate, practice conscious breathing and I enjoy hiking on nature trails. All of these activities bring me into my body. All of these activities help foster my creative expression. I have an ever increasing fascination and respect for the human experience in all it's depth, mystery and beauty.
Along with developing a nurturing connection with my body, I have also been studying the psyche. I love to study worlds such as astrology, quantum physics, psychology, spirit science, spirituality, emotions and the inner workings of the brain. Again, all of these things find there way into my Paintings.
My art is really a visual journal of my life and experiences. I value honesty and I practice painting uncensored. I wish the energy, concepts, colours and forms to flow as freely as possible from my innermost core to the canvas. I love to act impulsively and by the spur of the moment and intuition when it comes to my art. I allow the painting to lead me. Each piece has it's own voice, it's own energy and a story to tell."
